I help pensioners discover freedom through cycling

For 16 years, I've been designing cycling experiences that work for aging bodies and curious minds. From Pāvilosta's flat coastal routes to accessible programs across Latvia, it's all about making outdoor adventure simple and enjoyable.

How It Started

The Moment Everything Changed

It was 2008. I was working as a recreation coordinator at a wellness center in Riga, and honestly, I wasn't thinking about cycling at all. But then I noticed something that stuck with me. There was this group of older adults — mostly people in their 60s and 70s — who'd come in for general fitness programs. They were often hesitant, a bit stiff, moving carefully.

One summer, we organized a casual cycling trip along the Daugava. Nothing fancy. Just a flat route, easy pace. I'll never forget what happened afterward. These same people came back the next week asking if we could do it again. But it wasn't just about the cycling. They were talking, laughing, making plans with each other. The social energy was completely different.

That's when it clicked. Age isn't the problem. Badly designed programs are. These people didn't need gyms and exercise machines — they needed something that felt like living, not training. So I started reading everything I could find about senior recreation, adaptive sports, and gerontology. Went back to school. Got certified in adaptive coaching. Spent years learning what actually works.

In 2018, I launched Latvia's first "Silver Routes" initiative. We mapped every flat, safe cycling path suitable for older riders. Partnered with municipalities. Created guides. Trained local coordinators. And when I discovered Pāvilosta's coastal network — perfectly flat, beautiful, genuinely accessible — it became the centerpiece of everything I do now.

Today at stevenlano Solutions, I focus entirely on this. Senior cycling programs. Accessible route documentation. Evidence-based health guidance for older riders. Over 3,000 pensioners have participated in programs I've designed. And I'm still learning from every group I work with.

What I Know

Specialized Knowledge in Senior Cycling

Years of hands-on experience, formal training, and ongoing research shape how I approach senior outdoor recreation. Here's what defines my expertise.

Pāvilosta Coastal Routes

Deep knowledge of Latvia's most accessible flat cycling paths. I've personally ridden every section, documented safety features, and worked with local authorities to maintain these routes for pensioner groups.

Adaptive Program Design

I design cycling experiences for bodies that need accommodation. Joint issues, balance concerns, lower fitness levels — I've worked with hundreds of riders and know what actually makes a difference.

Senior Health & Fitness

Degree in Sports Science and Recreation Management from Latvian University of Life Sciences. Additional certifications from Latvian Sports Medicine Institute in gerontological wellness and adaptive sports coaching.

Bike Selection & Safety

I help pensioners choose the right bike for their body and fitness level. Comfort, stability, and proper fit aren't optional — they're the foundation of any successful program.

Route Planning & Accessibility

I map and evaluate cycling routes specifically for older adults. Terrain analysis, distance breakdown, rest points, accessibility features — every detail matters when you're designing for 60+ riders.

Group Leadership & Coaching

I've led cycling groups across Kurzeme region since 2010. Managing pace, encouraging nervous riders, building community — it's part coaching, part psychology, part logistics.

My Approach

What I Actually Believe

Age Isn't the Limitation

Bad program design is. I've seen 75-year-olds outpace 40-year-olds when the cycling experience is built correctly. It's not about pushing harder — it's about smart design.

Details Matter Enormously

A slightly uncomfortable saddle ruins a program. Confusing navigation kills confidence. Rest stops in the wrong places cause frustration. I obsess over these details because they're not small — they're everything.

Community Changes Everything

The health benefits of cycling are real. But what really transforms people's lives is connection. New friendships. Shared experiences. A group of peers doing something together. That's where the magic happens.

Evidence Over Assumptions

I don't guess what works. I test it. I read research. I talk to participants. I iterate. What worked five years ago might not be optimal now — I'm always learning and adjusting.

"Age shouldn't limit adventure. I've watched countless pensioners reclaim independence and vitality through properly designed cycling experiences. That's what drives everything I do."
